Millions of people go online, open an internet browser and connect to the rest of the world - every day! Today we are introducing a domain extension that gives more than 500 million people an online identity - eu.
How did it all start?
The .eu domain was created as a way to promote the European single market on the internet. The vision was to act as a building block for e-commerce in Europe, accessible to all EU companies and people. Promoting European values about freedom of the internet and the rule of law, .eu was a domain for Europeans, by Europeans.
With the turn of the millennium, a new Internet age developed and brought on a new economy - One where setting up a business is as simple as registering a domain and building a website behind it, where new ideas can grow into major companies and distances shrink. Waking up to the importance of having an online presence was at the forefront of Europe’s agenda and the launch of .eu was a major initiative in supporting this. (Show me the full timeline!).
What’s special about .eu?
The .eu domain is an icon of trust. The pan-European online community is celebrating the rich cultural heritage of its countries with a safe and reliable extension.
- Culture: A .eu website demonstrates a brand’s affinity and association with Europe.
- Broadens Horizons: Instead of just focusing on a particular country, a business or individual can focus on attracting business and site visitors from all of Europe
- Trust Symbol: .eu domains have been around for 15 years and are among others used by Energy and technology companies like encevo.eu, bloggers like Jon Worth, logistics companies, and even in mainstream advertising. You know you’re in good company with a .eu!
- Sustainability: Committed to working in a sustainable manner, .eu obtains the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme registration.
Have you heard of the .eu Web Awards?
If your website runs on a .eu domain you can take home a shiny trophy and over 2 months of free advertising at Brussels airport (if you are a business, you know this means a lot of free eyeballs!)
Launched in 2014, the .eu Web Awards are an online competition to acknowledge the best websites using .eu, .ею or .ευ and enhance the visibility of European innovations. You can nominate your website for free to compete for the grand prize.
The nomination and voting period run until 5 August 2021.
Award winner or not - .eu has the potential to become your European passport to the Internet and gateway to the world. You can find yours at domaindiscount24.
